DESCRIPTION:The next Business Before Hours will be on Tuesday\, March 21\, 8:00 am - 9:30 am in the Crawford Room at Wisp Resort.  The topic of discussion is Education in Garrett County presented by Superintendent of Garrett County Public Schools Barbara Baker and Garrett College President Dr. Richard Midcap. \n\n\n\nSuperintendent Baker will discuss some of the partnership opportunities with Garrett College. She will also present information on the school system progress toward the attainment of the goals of the Board of Education and outline how the budget process aligns with these goals. She will also highlight some successes and discuss some of the challenges the school system faces in the coming years.\n\n\n\nDr. Midcap will be discussing the high points from his listening tour around the county that has allowed him to get a feel for the top education priorities and what the county needs from Garrett College. He will also discuss new programming in the approval process for the next academic year including a degree in Computer Science. \n\n\n\nAbout Superintendent Baker: Ms. Baker has served the students of Garrett County Public Schools for the past 27 years.  She began her career as a German instructor at Southern Middle School in 1990.  Since that time\, she has continued in a variety of roles including elementary school teacher\, principal\, director\, Assistant Superintendent\, and now Superintendent of Garrett County Public Schools. During her tenure\, she has been responsible for overseeing classroom instruction\, building management\, instructional leadership\, school improvement\, strategic planning\, grant writing and management\, and serving as a chairperson for many committees and planning teams.\n\n\n\nAbout Dr. Richard Midcap: Dr. Richard Midcap became the 13th president of Garrett College in January\, 2017.  He spent the previous 23 years at Chesapeake College\, including 12 years as vice president responsible for student services.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Salisbury (MD) University\, a Master of Arts in history from Washington (MD) College and a Doctorate in Education from Wilmington (DE) University.
