SUMMARY:Business Before Hours - Education in Maryland 2013
DESCRIPTION:The next Business Before Hours\, sponsored by Garrett College's Continuing Education and Workforce Development\, will be on Wednesday April 17\, 8:00 am - 9:00 am at Dutch's at Silver Tree on Glendale Road. The topic of discussion is Education in Maryland presented by Dr. Lillian M. Lowery\, Ed. D\, the Maryland State Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Lowery will be discussing the state of Maryland's public education system\, the new system for assessing/rating schools\, the changes to the state testing system\, the impact of the new Common Core standards and her plan of action.\n\n Dr. Lowery became the Maryland State Superintendent of Schools and Secretary - Treasurer of the State Board on July 1\, 2012. She moved to Maryland from Delaware\, where she served as Secretary of Education since January 2009. As the Chief\, she facilitated a broad-based statewide strategic planning and grant application process\, resulting in Delaware being selected one of the first states to be awarded a coveted federal Race to the Top grant.
